Daily Drawings

Nineteen years ago (February 5th, 2006), I started drawing something I purchased daily. I had a few rules: black pen, white paper, no do-overs. Put them on the internet, put them in a zine, and share.
There are now thousands of drawings behind me and thousands more ahead of me.
I was 28 when I started this project. These drawings have documented marriage, changing jobs, moving, traveling, opening a business, and having my kid, Hank. They have recorded friendships. They have recorded life through my purchases from the incredibly boring to the exciting to the in-between.
I love documenting my days through these line drawings. This project has become a time for reflection, for quiet, for just spending a few minutes to think about my day. I like how drawing makes you slow down. I like how drawing an object makes you see.
I started this project on the heels of drawing my credit card statements as a form of punishment. I chose drawing because it was my least favorite way to create. I started this project because I wanted to draw something other than my dumb credit card statements and because I tricked myself into actually liking the drawing process. Nineteen years later, it’s my favorite thing to do.
Below you will find the first 8 years of Daily Purchase Drawings and then you can find the rest over on my Instagram and now over on my Substack.
