I got a Netflix account for my Graphic Design History Class. This movie came a bit too late. We are so done with surrealism. onward Art Deco!
Faythe so kindly took me to Home Depot when my plane landed so I could purchase Orange and Pink paint to cover the middle wall of her gallery.
We went to eat mexican and the three of us had Margaritas. I had two.
Thrifted at Value Village in Milwaukee. Everything was half off so this skirt was only $1.50. SWEET!
When I saw this little talking painting it told me to buy it for Clifton because he would love it so. I did and he does. I scored this at the Paperboat Boutique www.paperboatboutique.com more talking paintings here: www.talkingpaintings.com
Our house likes to eat red baron pizzas. Clifton cut out the mascot for me after our last pizza. Mr. Red Baron sits on my desk and protects it from the allied powers.
I purchased this mocha at Barnes and Noble. I ordered a Mocha. The lady behind the counter made a cold frappachino. I told her that I didn't order a frappachino. She told me that I did. Uh, pretty sure I didn't...could you please make me a mocha? thanks. Here is four dollars. It cost more that my large red baron pizza I had the night before.
per my request, will brought me back a dodo bird cd from the show he attended in texas over spring break. Right now, cross between rufus wainright and animal collective. LOVE IT.
yikes, I hate/love it when payless has cute shoes. I had been thinking about these since I purchaseed the red ones from there a few weeks ago.
I have been feeling lousy all week and I hardly EVER go to the doctor, but I went today. Took blood and they gave me some of these pills for my glands. $7.23
We were sent rent one get one rental free coupons in the mail. Clifton didn't want to watch any movies, so I picked up season one of Big Love and Marie Antoinette. $8.00 I discovered halfway home that they gave me The Marine with John Cina instead of Marie Antoinette. Yeah, NO. I turned around and exchanged.
I have been wanting to experiment with ink wash drawings lately. This is my very first jar of ink! Purchased at Barnes and Noble in the art section on a whim today for $4.29
I ran to get lunch between teaching graphic design history today and my print production class. The campus subway has been displaced since the Union is being remodled. I love tuna on wheat with chips and diet coke. $5.15
I purchased a shirt and a tote bag to support the indie craft doc. www.indiecraftdocumentary.com
I have sold 102 items on amazon marketplace. I needed some envelopes. I am totally not listing anymore items.
I have two styles of jeans that I love. My black skinny Target Mossimo jeans (I own three pair...one purchased in a Target, the other two on ebay) and these blue Hot Kiss brand dark dark blue, high cuff at the bottom jeans. I now have three pairs of these as well. All three purchased at a downtown store in Starkville. The pair was on sale for $25.00. I only wear these two styles of jeans, so I am selling the rest of my jeans in our upcoming yardsale.
I have been wearing this model of watch for about six years now. I lost my last one a few days ago and after a day of frantically searching for it, I gave up. My new one was on clearance at wal-mart for 20 bucks.
I needed to mail the 102 items that I have sold on amazon marketplace. I just received 12 more orders this morning.
end of the school year pedicure. shhh...I have never ever had one before.
mother's day gifts! fredflare.com always brings the cute!
I was invited to a jewlery party. I had never been to a jewlery party before. The party had two of my favorite things: free snacks and accessories. The accessories were not free, hence the 24 dollars I spent on this necklace.
Airports are getting me down. I have spent too much time at them this semester. I think the main thing that gets me down about airports is the lack of food options...at least at the Atlanta airport (the one that I spend the most layover time at).
I could have spent more. I put things back because it was getting out of control.
Brown soda water is healthy! really! vitamins! minerals! whatever!
I could eat here everyday. Dov from fractionworkspace.org and I went here for lunch. Clifton and I had been here a few years back.
Clare from www.fractionworkspace.com and I made a target run so I could get some pillows for my installation. These were on sale for $2.50. Pillows in ACTION!
ugh! airport food. The weakest example of a Turkey Sandwich ever.
If I had many jumpers in many colors I would make this my summer uniform. Big pockets for my stuffs. I love it!
itunes is dangerous. Feist has a much better profile than the one I drew.
Bingaman-Burt's favorite magazine. The subcription is in Clifton's name, but it was a Christmas present from me. Cabinet falls into the category of magazines that we keep rather than the category of magazines that we donate to the thrift store
They came with a pink faux velvet case.
oh sunglasses...the perfect pair is so elusive. All of Walgreen's sunglasses were 75% off. I paid $1.50 for these already pretty cheap glasses. They slip off of my head.
I have always had dark circles around my eyes. Nothing seems to work. Do not have high hopes for this product either.
I forgot the second E. I am surprised that I don't make more spelling mistakes when I draw. Too focused on the letters and not on the spelling. Postage went up. I needed some 2 cent stamps.
Miss Maybelle cut her paw on some pond rocks the other day. She is much better now. I am not sure if this stuff helped in the healing process or not.
still selling away on amazon. I spent 24 bucks on a ton more padded envelopes today at Barnes and Noble on campus.
We have been using Tom's of Maine toothpaste, but I was getting a bit sick of it and wanted my teeth to feel minty fresh again. Tom's is great and I love the company, but sometimes I just don't feel like my mouth is that clean. Clifton disagrees.
Six pack of lightbulbs at Walmart. Now all of our bulbs are energy saving. huzzah!
I have some weird bangs that are requiring these no slip bobby pins.
The only hair product that Clifton and I share.
I heard them on NPR all songs considered and loved the song so much that by the time the podcast was over I had already downloaded the full LP from itunes. www.myspace.com/battlestheband I drew the ep over the lp because the ep had better type to draw.
I went to barnes and noble and purchased the new bust and under the radar. I came home and saw that the mailman had delivered the new venus as well. I was going to draw chloe sevigny's head and the bust masthead, but I ran out of room.
We saw our friend jay and his team the Texas Playboys play in the field that he designed with the rural studio a few years back. He lives in Austin now, but used to work with clifton at the Carl Small Town Center. The Texas Playboys lost to the Newbern Tigers, but it was great to take a road trip and see several Rural Studio projects as well.
We had a yardsale on saturday. Jessica came and sold some of her stuff. She also made several totebags. We bought one to carry our groceries in.
Clifton has wanted a tape gun for quite awhile. He dream came true the other day and we purchased a brand new red tape gun at walmart for around 8 dollars. huzzah! tape gun!
I spent a few days cleaning out my closet for our upcoming yard sale. I rented the first season of How I Met Your Mother to keep me company. I didn't start watching until the second season so I am all caught up now.
I purchased a huge lot of zippers off of ebay. These will go on my obsessive consumption money pouches that I am going to start producing. wheeee!!!
Clifton and I are trying to eat better and drive less. These four burgers represent the shame of failing at both since we needlessly drove to mcdonald's in the middle of the day and ate four cheeseburgers in the car on the way home.
The Barnes and Noble on campus carries the Sunday New York Times. This may not sound like a big deal to those of you who live in civilization. I was too busy to read the print version during the school year and usually caught selected articles online. This Sunday I treated myself to the paper and laid on the couch and read the whole thing. Summer! YES! sidenote: GREAT article on Judd Apatow in the magazine. and for Judd fans, I stumbled upon this : www.harpers.org/archive/2002/03/0079095
oh snap. it is mosquito season in mississippi.
Clifton and I went to Umi in Starkville on Friday night. I had my favorite meal: Edamame beans, peach green tea with saki, spring rolls and miso soup.
I don't use my phone very much at all, but I still seem to spend about sixty bucks a month on it. I have the most basic plan (30 bucks) and then the media pack (15 bucks) and then extra taxes. I just cancelled my 15 dollar media pack because I don't take pictures with my phone that much to justify an extra 15 bucks a month.
BP has a new summer family campaign that I find rather amusing/confusing. We spent almost 40 dollars filling up the other day so we grabbed free sunflower seeds and trading cards to support their greenwashing. The website: www.alittlebettergasstation.com Some of the characters look like wannabe Chris Ware peeps.
wow, our dog is costing a lot...we had tried a ton of other flea medications and this one works the best! Three months of treatment: $50.00
We have been traveling a ton. We filled up for the last time at the Cold Water, MS BP outside of Memphis. BP's are everywhere. EVERYWHERE!
mcdonald's salads are my new favorite fast food item. I had FOUR of these over the past two weeks.
We found a big box of old bingo cards at the central city, nebraksa thrift store. They were 25 cents. It was such a good thrift store. I also found a bunch of fabric and some gold sequin rick rack.
These potatoes went into will's homemade potato launcher.
On our way to Nebraksa, we went to Lawrence, KS. We only stopped over for about 45 minutes. I purchased some magazines at the Borders downtown.
I didn't buy anything today that was tangible. I looked at my bank statment and saw that my Media Temple fee was deducted from the account today, so really I did buy something...
I purchased this at a staples in Jefferson City. We needed a second scanner and this one is slim and simple and I really like it so far. It only has ONE cord for both usb and power. super sweet.
Because I go to the chain Break TIme for coffee I thought I would be safe from running into anyone that I used to go to school with, but this morning my theory was blown. I realized that the girl taking my money was someone that I took dance lessons with in elementary school, but fortunately I remember liking her (she also moved away shortly after fifth grade, I think). I did a dance routine with her to Wham's Wake Me Up Before I Go-Go and Michael Jackson's Beat It.
I have been staying with my parents and they are not morning coffee drinkers. Driving into town to the local Break Time has become a morning ritual. I skip the locally owned gas station/coffee shop for fear of running into someone I went to high school with. ha! I wish I was joking, but I am serious.
I purchased my little sister two shirts when I went to visit her in Springfield, Mo.
omg. Sonicare is AMAZING. I was hooked when I used dov and clare's last month. Dov swore to me that I would want to buy one after using it and he was right. I feel like sonicare should give him a commission or something.
Car trips require gum.
Thrift store find in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Purchased some flowers for my grandma before we arrived at her house.
I took the train from Greenwood, MS to St. Louis, MO. I met my mom at the station and we drove to Kenosha, Wisconsin to see my grandparents. The train ride was a bit less than ideal but the most memorable event that happened was listening to people having sex in the nasty bathrooms at 4 in the morning while I deboarded.
How cliched is it for me to have money air freshener? Very, but I don't care. 100 dolla billz ya'll.
I found this alubum at the Palmer House thrift store in Columbus, Mississippi. I thought it would have some good spoken word stuff for intros on mix cds. SELL THE SIZZLE!!!
I do love this magazine. The last time I did a did a drawing of Teen Vogue it happened to be the April Prom issue. They were both purchased at the same thrift store for a quarter as well. Total coincidence, I swear.
I am getting ready for a train ride in a few days and downloaded some ipod viewing material. The State on my ipod! huzzah!
oh flickr. I have bought several pro accounts since the summer of 2005. Some for school, some for me, some for gifts. This one is for year three of me on flickr.
I have been wanting to get this book since it came out, but for some reason I wanted to buy it in a bookstore instead of ordering it online. Don't ask, I have no idea why I made that demand on our poor little barnes and noble in starkville which only FINALLY received this book. They didn't even display it with the new books. They slipped the two yellow copies right on the normal fiction shelf. I get a faculty discount too, so I saved 10%. I know if I had ordered it online I would have saved more, but again, I made the deal to myself that I would buy it in the store. I haven't been able to read it yet. Only photograph it and draw it.
I drank smart water waaaaay before Jennifer Aniston made it cool.
I went to the university print shop and saw scott about buying some paper for my zines. he hooked me up with some very nice pink and orange card stock. He even cut it down for me on the massive cutter. Thanks Scott!
so excited about this! They are great bags, hold a ton of food AND they are only 99 cents. They also have really nice square bottoms that sit up really well in our car. check out a post about the bags coming to starkville HERE brought to you by What’s Up, Starkville?
We needed a pitcher to make some cold tea! exciting!
A HUGE box from www.dwr.com showed up at my door today. It was my first dwr box and it will probably be my last for a long time (unless I order more ON SALE THREE DOLLAR awesome Me Boxes). I was a big fan of this box when I saw it a few years ago. However, like most DWR products, it was beautiful, but a bit out of my price range. I bought them individually, but those sold out and now they are selling them in packs of 15 (which is still a pretty good deal at 4 dollars a box). Design Within Reach - MeBox set of 15
Clifton found this on ebay. He doesn't normally express interest in buying things, but he did with this vintage metal sign, so we clicked the buy it now option for $19.00.
To celebrate Charles Eames b-day (well, I was a week late), I found this bright yellow eames-like chair for $14.00 at the same place where we scored our fake eames lounger. I don't really know if it makes sense to celebrate Charles Eames by purchasing a knockoff of one of his most iconic designs, but I am doing what I can on a budget here.
Picked this up at Lowes for 6.98. It is going in my studio (in process of cleaning and organizing it) and will hold all of my most favorite tools (rolls of colored tape! wood burning kit! dremel tool! bright spools of thread! you get the idea! )
I went to walgreens to purchase some pain reliever and walked out with on sale Jason-good-smelling-lotion. I have never used this brand before. I have wanted too, but it always seems a little too expensive. For four bucks, it was a bit more attainable.
Thanks to ETSY, I needed more envelopes to ship off zines. Wheee!
So we went to IKEA in atlanta. This is only one of the many purchases made that day. We are not opening the silverware until we move into our new kitchen. IKEA drawings are being planned as I type this.
I went with Deb to the World Market in Savannah. She bought a rug and four stools. I bought two on sale, light weight scarves for $2.98 each. Deb's purchases were way more awesome than mine. Her living room looks great with the new additions in case anyone was wondering.
hmmm...18 tubes for 10 bucks. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't have high expectations.
Getting ready for another long trip. Our poor car.
I returned. I stopped my Netflix several months ago because I wasn't watching the movies. Now I am just watching them on my computer while I work at my desk. First up: Pan's Labyrinth and Volvar.
Cruising around Etsy, I found a pile of really wonderful vintage fabric with terrific patterns. Lots of funny animals and pixel lettering. Thanks clevernettle.etsy.com!
In anticipation for the arrival of my new mac book (thank you mississippi state) clifton purchased a wireless mouse for me off of Amazon. it was supposed to be surprise, but I received the order confirmation email and ruined his plan.
okay, I have owned 69 love songs on cd at least two times. I only have disc number three in my possession currently. I was putting together a mix and wanted these three songs which happen to NOT be on disc three. I want the complete set again. I also love the magnetic fields.
My guy talking painting now has someone else to talk to besides me. blogged!
oh man, miss maybelle = not happy more: www.obsessiveconsumption.typepad.com
Whew. Chase and I go way back. I am not sad to see this one go. Good riddance chase bank. Three more cards to go. One is easy. Two are whoppers. Chase was my main whopper. Highest APR and at one point, the highest balance. Next up: Juniper Bank.
I purchased this at Lowe's for my studio. A big, silver, oscar the grouch style trash can to hold all my failed drawings, prints, fabric scraps and other crap.
This summer Dr. Pepper is kicking Diet Coke in the pants.
I was starting to feel terrible about all of the family photos, past and present, that are accumulating in my tupperware boxes. Three photo albums were purchased from target.com in hopes that some order will happen. $16.98 each.
After months of drooling over bikes, I just purchased this one off of ebay. It was a pretty good deal and it will be a test to see if I ride it a lot and actually deserve a new Amsterdam Electra.
Hands down, my favorite cereal. Usually it is pricey (hovers around 4 bucks a box), but this week it is on sale...5 boxes for 10 bucks! I bought two boxes.
ordered from former fellow lincolnite (me being the former, not her): automaton!!! check out her other store too: Aorta!!! Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today?: August 13th: Octopus Necklace from ETSY
So yeah, I went to the clothing store down the street from our office to say hi and introduce myself and ended up buying this purse. This is big enough to fit my Laptop! I can now alternate between my nerd chic jansport bag and my new faux trendy (?) grey bag. I think the store down the street likes me, but perhaps it is because I bought their friendship.
I purchased this at CVS to put in our postage meter. I don't think I have purchased a 9 volt battery since I was in fifth grade. My walkie talkie headphones took 9 volts and that is the last appliance that I used that took these batteries. What else uses 9 Volts? Am I totally out of touch with the battery world?
more postage. always more postage.
I have become obsessed. I couldn't wait for Netflix to send me season four, so I went out and rented it Saturday morning. The rental place was having a rent three get three free, so the price wasn't too bad. I watched the entire series as I worked on the August 2008 calendar page. I can safely say this is my favorite tv show of all time. I am pretty sad that I am facing season five soon.
sides! guilty pleasure
get your laura park mini comic : HERE. This was my favorite purchase of the week. She made my envelope look smashingly as well.
I made myself finish drawing it before I ate it. here is a nytimes article about cupcakes: www.nytimes.com/2007/09/23/weekinreview/23kershaw.html?em...
I am a traitor to my beloved pilot v5 pens. These are simply better. I have been convinced! Purchased at Office Depot in Columbus, MS.
I am done. I don't think I can ever watch TV again. This is simply the best.
Purchased at Dirt Cheap for the Public Design Center's emulsion and beer.
One of three bottles from the Savvy Grape in Starkville, MS.
damn you canker sores.
I have had the same black nail polish on my fingers since halloween.
some holiday candle smellz for our apartment and for my mom and sister when they come to visit. Hopefully it will mask the dog smell.
to hold paper chains together.
purchased from www.thelittlefriendsofprintmaking.com
If you want to sign up for my mailing list check out my site: www.obsessiveconsumption.typepad.com
my favorite pair of jeans were purchased at a target in may of 2006. The above is my third pair found on ebay. This is a drawing of the first pair: www.flickr.com/photos/kateconsumption/154409215/in/set-72...
Maria Kalman's The Principles of Uncertainty. I took the dust jacket off.
on sale "beauty" thingz. I love walgreen's closeout items.
my second pair of these headphones. The other pair broke today.
I almost bought these a few months ago at payless but they were twenty bucks. Today they were 10.
new dwell redesign. AWESOME alexander girard article btw. read about the redesign here: www.dwell.com/daily/blog/13815877.html
So I decided to try Starkville's local art store out again tonight for the first time since 2005. When we first moved here I was not impressed at all with the Chalet. Namely, their customer service was terrible and the word of mouth from the student population was that they were notorious for screwing up orders and overcharging. Our intern Will told me a couple days ago that the Chalet was under new management and that he had an excellent experience. So I went in tonight. I bought a sketchbook. I talked with the owner and he offered to take the entire graphic design department out to lunch and was just generally TOTALLY nice. The offer of free food and a smile won me over. I will be shopping at the chalet again.
the bingaman-burt household are cabinet subscribers for another year! huzzah!
I love this crazy religious family and their product. I used to buy this all of the time when we lived in Lincoln, but since moving to Mississippi it has been rather difficult to find. I was in Walgreen's the other night and noticed they had a huge bottle of Lavender Hemp and I promptly scooped it up. Anyone notice how Walgreen's has been carrying a pretty extensive line of organic body care products? Did anyone notice the they also sell Bumble and Bumble shampoo along with an annotated line of Kiehls? I am waiting for both to go on super clearance. I can't imagine it flying off the Walgreen's shelves at full price.
so, I was at blockbuster (renting season three of 24 thankyouverymuch) and decided to pick up the 10 dollar rewards card. What sold me was the "Rent one get one free during Monday through Wednesday" feature. I have three more seasons of 24 to rent. I think this was a good purchase. To be determined.
I was at my neighborhood BP this afternoon and spied fancy new snapple water. So new, in fact, that they even had to change their old logo so that it would be suitable for this futuristic liquid. I am pretty sure this is their answer to how they are going to try to compete with Vitamin Water. Good luck...this drink tastes like a grape jolly rancher that isn't very sweet.
The screen is tight, like woah on these. I have no idea what that means. more here: www.publicdesigncenter.org/blog/2008/01/new-screens.php
I had to ship a VIP package today to PDX via FedEx. ASAP.
zine by andy smith: www.asmithillustration.com/booklightning1.html purchased at www.littlepaperplanes.com
so, I have never watched 24 until a few days ago.
