  • chic-•filet

2.06.06 Lunch that one of my students picked up for me during class. uploaded to: www.obsessiveconsumption.com

  • Kroger Banana Pudding

I haven't eaten pudding in years. I had forgotten the joy of a bowl of banana pudding neatly surrounded by vanilla wafers. I rediscovered that tonight. excellent. uploaded to: www.obsessiveconsumption.com

  • six clipboards

I bought six clipboards at the campus bookmart today. They were $1.39 each. I hung them behind my desk in my office. I might spray paint them. I am not sure yet. uploaded to: www.obsessiveconsumption.com

  • Brokeback Mountain Ticket: 02.09.06

Starkville Mississippi finally has Brokeback Mountain in the local theater...for awhile it was only playing in cities hours away from us. Six word review: good, sad, beautiful, cry, like, baby. uploaded to: www.obsessiveconsumption.com

  • 021006 pizza hut

We orderd a large cheese pizza tonight and watched a netflix. I ate half. he ate half. ugh. I feel way too full.

  • 021106 Four color click pen

I used to love these in elementary school. I was thinking about this pen the other day and today I saw one and got it. I used it while I was paying bills today. Red = paid. Green = due date. I haven't thought of uses for the black or blue ink yet.

  • 021206 Black Sketchbook

What: black sketchbook Where: Chalet in Starkville Why: Some place to house my daily purchase drawings How Much: $10.00

  • 21306 orange powerade

Orange Powerade bought at the BP in Starkville for $1.50. I know I should just drink "normal" water, but I sucumb to the orangy sweet goodness fairly often.

  • 021406 Orbit Gum

Part of a three pack. I prefer these to the sticks. And I don't think the whitening promise really works.

  • 021506 Flash Drive

Well, it was between drawing gummi worms or a flash drive and I felt like I have been drawing too many food items and technology won out over sugary candy that I really didn't enjoy that much anyway. This is actually going to be used by cliff. It was $50.00.

  • 021606 Addy Awards

25 Dollar ticket for the addy's in tuscaloosa alabama tonight. That included two drinks! we want two drinks! (ala pavement two states...sorry, I do that whenever I hear two ANYTHING). Patrick and I won a silver for the www.caad.msstate.edu site and Jamie and I won best of show print for our mobilivre promotions ----> www.flickr.com/photos/kateconsumption/45713800/

  • 021706-Netflix

I have been all about the 1893 world's fair lately. This documentary was good! A couple of the live action shots were cheesy (bad belly dancers and repeated jolly men drinking beer), but the narration (gene wilder) and the photographs were great!

  • 021806- pepto

Again making the resolution to NEVER EVER eat fried foods EVER again.

  • 021906 gold shoes

Tupelo Mississippi in effect! I went to TJ Maxx and bought some tights and these franco sarto gold shoes for $11.00.

  • 022006-Red Bull

yeah, this stuff is gross, but it freaking works. Picked a four pack at the BP so now I am rocking the red bull, STILL organizing images for my lecture in Boston and, um, listening to America's Next Top Model...I think it is cycle 1. Oh, and the bull cost $6.99 for four.

  • 022106: Eyebrow Wax

One of my favorite "girly" indulgences. My brows had to be properly groomed before I stepped in front of an audience at the conference. I KNEW they would all be there to look at my brows and NOT to hear the panel that I was on. DUH.

  • 022206: Cheapo Headphones

I forgot my GREAT headphones at home. These really really sucked. I bought them at one of the airport newstands in Atlanta for $7.99. Really, really flimsy and BAD sound quality. gross.

  • 022306: CAA Badge

My official BADGE! My ticket into panels & the book fair. The conference was great, but it might as well have been held in starkville, because I didn't get to see any of Boston. I didn't leave the hotel complex for two days...just conference activities straight through.

  • 022406: The Last Picture Show

I had The Last Picture Show on my amazon wish list for quite sometime. I stopped by the great book fair at the conference and grabbed it from the DAP booth for 50% off. If I didn't have to obey the 50lb per bag weight limit at the airport, I would have bought a lot more books. The last day most of the booths were selling display copies for half off. who-hoo!

  • 022506: Harper's

Bought this in the Boston Airport (I also bought a Jane, but drawing this seems to make me seem a bit more intelligent). The article on the creator of the Flash Mob is excellent. Deb had a copy of this in the Hotel room and was raving about the article. I had to buy it and find out for myself. She was right. It is gooood.

  • 022606: Vitamin Water

Yay! Vitamin Water! It is more expensive than my orange powerade (and not very acessible around starkville, mississippi) but I would drink this anyday. The design and clever copy do it for me. $2.25

  • 022706 apple a day

Fuji = the best. We bought three at Kroger and I ate one for lunch today.

  • 030106: ac/dc adapter

I left my cell phone charger at the hotel in boston. It has been dead for two days and I can't get any answers from the lost and found at the hotel, so I went and bought an adapter so I can use my car charger inside. It was the cheapest thing and I think it will work!

  • 030206: Mango Margarita

whew. this was gross. I had originally ordered a regular lime margarita and cliff had ordered the mango, but then we traded and then I found myself drinking (and kept drinking...I am not a quitter) the sweetest drink of all time. I could have drawn our lease on our new rental house that we got today, but the shape of the cup pleased me. Plus I draw too many documents as it is.

  • 030306-stocking cap

I have been looking for a cap with a brim for awhile. It isn't really cold anymore, but this was fairly cheap. I will save it for next winter. $3.99

  • 030406: jesus scarf

We went to greenwood, mississippi this morning. I bought a Jesus scarf. My friend Ian has a Jesus hat that he used to wear when we lived in Lincoln. It was purple and kind of looked like this scarf. except it was a hat.

  • 030606

The new client for my print production class is a goat cheese farm. Not many of the students have eaten goat cheese, so I went to Southern Family Markets this morning and bought some goat cheese and crackers to feast upon during class today. Goat Cheese: $4.99

  • 030506

I have been scouring ebay lately looking for curtains for the new house. The best thing about buying ebay curtains is that if they don't work in the house, I will cut them up and use them for fabric. I don't really know where these will go. Curtains: $13.00

  • 030806: Garbage Bags

We have A LOT of trash to get rid of at the house. I went to Lowe's this morning to get some cleaning supplies for the new house and these heavy duty bags for the trash at the old house. Trash Bags: $7.86

  • 030706

The salvation army in starkville just had a facelift. They cleaned a bit, they organized. It is nice. I picked up a pillow that was in really good condition. Orange, green and yellow velour. My grandma bingaman had these pillows when I was little. I had to buy it.

  • 030906:tornado crackers

I bought these in the Giles Hall vending machine during the horrible storm we had here on Thursday. We lost power in the Small Town Center so I laid on the couch in the dark and ate crackers. Fifty Cents. ( I also bought some mini cookies and some cheez-its...I was hungry)

  • 031006: flowers for grandma!

My grandma's b-day was the 10th. I ordered some flowers online. I had never done that before, but she said they were BEAUTIFUL! The arrangement was called "plum crazy". Purple is her favorite color, so she liked it.

  • 031106: paint roller

Just a sampling of the pile of painting crap that was needed to paint the house. ugh.

  • 031206: hamburger

I hate onions. I love skinny burgers.

  • 031306: Turbo Tax

Just finished filing my taxes for 2005. I wasn't able to do it online last year, but this year since I didn't have to file in a billion states I did it from the comfort of my own chair. AND I got some money back, so the 80 bucks I paid to file didn't sting too badly.

  • 031406: Lowe's Nail Apron

The text is blue on the apron. I hung some ebay curtains wearing this yesterday. HOTT.

  • 031506

More nails for our new rental house! again, purchased at lowes.

  • 031706

We are just moving across town, but we don't own a large vehicle to haul our junk. Oh and when we were leaving the carport of our old house we accidentally made contact with the grandma's attic feature on this particular uhaul. oops.

  • 031806

I purchased a bunch of curtains off of ebay and need to hang them!

  • 081506: Chew Toys

I need to stop soon with the purchasing of toys for Maybelle. This is a green chew ring and an orange horse shoe. Each were 88 cents at Wal-Mart.

  • 032606

clearence for $20.00. The papers are going crazy at the house. I am hoping to reign them in.

  • 032506

faux silver toilet bowl brush and holder. oh so FANCY!

  • 032706:powerade

Again, enough with the orange powerade. This is the only thing that I bought today. I can't get enough of ORANGE WATER!!!

  • 032806: bop's vanilla milkshake

mmmmm...the best vanilla milkshake ever. This is the kid size and I used to drink way more of these than I should. Now, I have cut back a bit, but last night was time for one.

  • 032906: cascade

We have a dishwasher! We need soap! We have never had a dishwasher before! Huzzah!

  • 033006: coffee

Walked to the little market at the end of our street to pick up some coffee for the morning. We ran out and Folgers is gross, but no coffee is grosser.

  • 033106: gift certificate

It was James Davis' b-day so we got him a gift certificate to the movies. everyone loves going to the movies, right?

  • 040106: towels

We needed some new towels. I liked these colors, so I bought them. As easy as that.

  • 040206: ice cream sandwich

I ate 3/4 of it. Cliff had 1/4.

  • 040306: teen vogue

I haven't been a teen in almost 10 years and I haven't been to a prom in almost 10 years, but boy oh boy do I like Teen Vogue. I like the clothes, the size of the magazine and the little articles about the dangers of energy drinks and the horrors of body piercing. sue me.

  • 040406: sunglasses

I lost my favorite Target black sunglasses in the move. I have been going sunglassless for the past few days and it has been driving me nuts. We went to Wal-Mart tonight (I know, I hate the place too, but when you live in Starkville, MS there are not many options). Cliff needed a beard trimmer (it was lost in the move) and I picked up some sunglasses while we were waiting in line to check out. These are from the GEORGE line which is Walmart's "upscale" women's division. I never noticed that the O in the George logo forms a W for walmart until I had to draw it. What awkward type treatment.

  • 040806: Coca Cola Blak

okay, I couldn't resist. I was grocery shopping in kroger and saw the NEW coke energy/carbonated coffee drink. It was on sale: $5.99 for four (normally $8.99...can you believe that? anyway). A dollar off coupon was stuck onto the package as well, making the whole purchase $4.99 for four of them (still too expensive, but I wanted to try the carbonated coffee/coke concoction). The verdict? really good. It tastes like those japan coffee candies that I am in total love with. I can drink the coffee candy! But not that often because this shit is expensive. Packaging verdict: not so hot. The bottle is glass but covered with thin printed plastic. The cap is plastic. The energy logo is awkward and trying too hard. I like how the coke people decided to make up an accent mark that looks like the coke band to go over the a in the BLAK. What the hell? Is coke making up languages now? cokanese? anyway. still. tastes gooood.

  • 040706: jeff spicoli vans

my summer shoes came in! I debated for months about deviating from my black chucks in favor of the jeff spicoli vans, but so far I like the slip ons vs. the laces. Last summer I altered a pair of my old chucks into slip ons by ripping off the backs, but this summer I will have non smelly shoes to slip my feet into (well, not smelly for a little while). I paid 40 bucks for these. ouch.

  • 040606: Skin Clearing Moisturizer

The Dirt Cheap store in Starkville hudsonsdirtcheap.com/ had a shipment from a Walgreen's that went out of business so all of the beauty and skin items were 60% off. I picked this up along with some other things that I wouldn't pay full price for. ever. Like lavendar whipped body balm lotion and biore self heating masks. This was $3.00.

  • 040506: Salvation army J. Crew jeans

Stopped by the Salvation Army and found two pairs of J. Crew jeans that were exactly like my favorites from a few years back that disolved from me wearing them so much. These are in perfect, never worn condition. The only catch: they are a size too small. I WILL wear these. I WILL. eventually. $2.95

  • 041106: Martha!

This is the first wedding magazine that I have ever purchased and it was because there is a great article about designer Lena Corwin www.lenacorwin.com/ and her wedding. This whole thing is stressing me out. Combined with feeling like a slacker and just being busy NOT with the wedding, looking at Lena's wedding made me feel better. Why does everything have to be so expensive and just ugly? Lena's wedding is NOT ugly but personal and awesome and gives me hope. God, I am such a girl. Please forgive.

  • 040906: tpins from the bookstore

Bought four boxes of t-pins for the installation of the AIGA show on sunday night. These were purchased at the MSU bookstore. When I went to the gallery I noticed that we had plenty of t-pins so now I have a surplus of t-pins in my office.

  • 041006: coffee, tea...

Anna and I bought a coffee for mike and two teas for us in the campus union on monday. Hers in on the right filled with ice. Mike's is on the left with a lid and steam.

  • 041306: Padfolio

This was my gift from the Pop Culture Conference. They called it a padfolio when they handed it to me and it made me laugh. and they didn't laugh with me. The conference was fine. Quick, but fine. I was told that irony = apathy in regards to my work. I disagree.

  • 041406:1% milk at Southern Family Markets

We went to southern family markets (used to be called Food Max) to pick up some milk. We normally go to Kroger, but we were only getting milk and Southern Family Markets is closer. There is no heart dotted above the "i" in dairy, but wouldn't it be cool if there were?

  • 041506:12 citronella candels

I don't know if citronella is spelled like that or like this: citronela...the more I look at it spelled out, the more I realize it should be two L's. So I have a type on the drawing. Bought some plants at Lowe's along with the candles. I hate bugs. In fact there is one flying around me right now. ARGH! Even though it is only April, it is totally buggy here in Starkville.

  • 041206: calculator

I have a billion two dollar calculators and I keep losing them. I don't know where they go. Seriously. They never return once they go either. Someone is stealing my calculators.

  • 041806: Iron on Letters

I love iron on letters. These are 1.63 at wal-mart. I made a shirt with these a few months ago that said I love francis fergusson. www.francisfergusson.com Cliff seemed to quite enjoy it. And of course, I always look for a reason to draw some type.

  • 042106: 4 no sew buttons

Cliff got a pair of jeans off of ebay and they arrived missing a button. Speaking of missing. The package to these buttons said FOUR and somehow only came with THREE. $1.63

  • 042006: Window Envelopes

I purchased a few small window envelopes for 10 cents a piece thinking they might work as a part of our wedding invites. Not so sure yet.

  • 042406: Breton Crackers

I binged last night and ate about a half a sleeve of these crackers with the on sale brie that I bought at kroger. I probably should have done this earlier in the night instead of thinking it was a good idea around 11:30. The crackers were $2.99 at Kroger.

  • 042706: dr. pepper

Veered away from the normal can of diet coke that I get from the vending machine downstairs in Stafford and went with the Dr. P to accompany me during class today. I always think of Jenni and her love of the Pep. She LOVES it! Doesn't Dr. Pepper have a new berries and cream concoction coming down the pipe soon? or is it here? The anticipation...

  • 042606: emergency headphones

I stepped on my big sony headphones that I have had since the beginning of grad school. They were paint encrusted, perfectly broken in and just contained a lot of good memories for me. That sounds really pathetic, but it is true. I loved my headphones. I went to Wal-Mart to get a replacement pair asap and the $17.99 Koss headphones were the only ones offered that were big and totally engulfed my head. They are okay. just okay.

  • 042506: cheapo portfolio

Went to the bookstore to pick up some paper. I bought two of these small, brown paper portfolios to store the random scraps of drawings that tend to get strewn about my desktop.

  • 042806: Ice trays

We have been searching high and low for ice trays since we moved to our new house. We finally found them at the dollar store in town. Why were these so difficult to find?

  • 042906: paper doilies

This is the small size of paper doilies. I also bought a large size. I wanted to use them as a stencil for an idea that I had for our wedding invites.

  • 043006: hot pink spray paint

I couldn't find normal pink spray paint. The colors were either too light or too country rose, so I went for some enamel hot pink hobby paint to spray the doilies for the invites. It worked! the stencil actually looks pretty good. Which is nice because all of my wedding invite ideas have been failing up until this point.

  • 050106: sunglasses take two

I bought these rather obnoxious black sunglasses today. I already drew my first pair of sunglasses for 2006 so here is the second pair. They were 12 dollars and from a little shop downtown. One complaint so far - they slip off my head when I place them there to rest. Just fall right off. Not a good start.

  • 050206: magicTM Tape

Wouldn't you think the entire phrase "MAGIC TAPE" would be trade marked instead of just MagicTM? How can the word MagicTM be trademarked. I am so confused. Anway, we never. ever. ever. never. nerver. have tape around the house. So I fixed that and bought this at the book store. Our lives have changed. Thanks MagicTM Tape!

  • 050306: Business Button

Bought this button at Backroads Antiques in Starkville. I love that place. It is run by a little cute old couple. Everything is cheap and everything is displayed with total care. I like the drop shadow on this button along with the HUGE "profits = progress". YES! This button was $1.00

  • 050406: Closet Bracket

One of my closet bars is sagging quite badly. I purchased this to unsag it. It was a $1.49 at Lowe's.

  • 050506: Lime

I purchased a lime from Kroger for 44 cents so that I may enjoy its flavor in a wonderful summer gin and tonic.

  • 050606: Red Stripe

We had a few people over to the house and I bought a six pack of Red Stripe. I never really drink Red Stripe but I was seduced by the bottle and felt that I would like to drink this beverage again. I still have four left out of the six pack if that tells you how popular it was.

  • 050706: Resolve Carpet Stain Remover

We knocked over a liter of Diet Coke on our rug the other day. Our rug is pretty gross. I wish we could just rip it out, but since we are renting we are stuck with the nasty. Hopefully this will get rid of our stain and some of the stains that don't belong to us.

  • 050806: diet coke

rather boring purchase (not that my other one's are super exciting), but this was the only thing that I bought today. Purchased from the machine on the first floor of Stafford with a quarter, three dimes and a nickel.

  • 050906: composition notebook

New book for my daily drawings. I have filled up ONE so far with plenty more to go. I went with the cheaper composition notebook instead of the hardback sketch book that I purchased the first time around. The pages are thinner and the pen reacts differently, but I like it.

  • 051706: soft suitcase

Thrift store buy. It came back full from Kenosha. Along with a bigger suitcase that came back an extra 25 pounds heavier. I had to pay 25 bucks at the airport because the big suitcase weighed 62 pounds...12 over the 50 pound limit. yuck.

  • 051006: fancy paper clips

I bought these at sullivan's office supply. My second box. I love the clips and they have been keeping busy holding together important papers for me today.

  • 051106: Old Navy Sale Thermal for Clifton

Old Navy has some excellent sales. In fact, it is sometimes just silly to buy things full price at that establishment because everything will eventually be 60-70% off. I bought this thermal for clifton. It is light blue. I know it is summer and he won't be able to wear it much, but watch out fall and winter. good times.

  • 051306: Rotary Cutter

Rotary Cutter bought at Walmart. I am going to use this to cut down the fabric for the invitations. I have never owned one before and DAMN! I love it! Super sharp. I am sure that I will dull down the blade when I have to cut 300 fabric squares with it. Can't wait.

  • 051606: Mocha!

There is a coffee shop around the block and I just assumed that it was going to be a major let down like all of the other coffee shops in starkville. god, that sounded snotty, but it is true. I leave all coffee shops in this area just feeling gross and sad. anyway. SADNESS NO MORE! I finally had a cup of coffee that kicked ass. This drawing is of a mocha that actually tasted good and not watered down and it didn't taste like I was drinking liquid sadness. It was a bit expensive, but it was worth it because my mocha addiction had been dormant since leaving Nebraska. Back on, baby.

  • 051506: Soft Rubber Roller for xerox transfers

Large roller I purchased to print xerox transfers. I have a smaller one, but needed a larger one for more evan surface coverage. I bought this at the msu bookstore for fourteen dollars.

  • 052106: secretary blouse

Purchased at the goodwill. I have too many of these. Maybe I should start selling the good ones I find on ebay.

  • 052606: soft pretzel

Purchased in the atlanta airport. I have a major weakness for the almighty soft pretzel. This one was lightly salted and devoured during a two hour layover between flights.

  • 052706: mouthwash

I came home and I thought we were out of mouthwash so I picked some more up at wal-mart. Found out the bottle in the bathroom was just misplaced. We have two bottles of blue equate mint mouthwash.

  • 051806: thrift store plate

Kari and I decided instead of paying forty cents for each styrofoam plate at the dinner after the ceremony that we would start picking up thrift store plates. This one was 49 cents and way better than styrofoam.

  • 051906: stamps

Purchased 200 postcard stamps to mail out the invites. I think I am going to have to get more.

  • 052006: skinny jeans

I fell victim to the skinny jean trend. and I love them. I want more. I resisted for a long time because I was still healing scars from skinny jeans that I wore in junior high, but this time around it is totally different...or is it? Purchased at Target. $22.00.

  • 052506: H&M Barrette

Picked this hair barrette up for my grandmother at H&M in a mall somewhere outside of Madison. My grandma has lots of hair bows and I love them. This one will match all of her colorful, flowy skirts.

Honestly, I can't find this in Mississippi. I love Peach Snapple Tea. I mean, seriously, this is not an exotic drink I am in need of. What gives Mississippi?

  • 052406: safe house tattoo

Uncle Paul took Kory and I to the Safe House Bar in Milwaukee after Grandma and Grandpa's historical society ceremony. www.safe-house.com/ I picked up a tattoo from the vending machine. Totally untouched by rampant advertising that most theme bars fall victim too. This one still felt like it was 1979. Loved it.

  • 052806: Grant's Ant Killer

We have an ant problem. I have become obsessed with seeing if the ants are dying in our kitchen. They finally took the bait and I am victorious!

I bought two bright blue COMFORTABLE lawn chairs at Lowe's. They were a bit expensive (29.00 each) but they are more comfortable than our bed.

  • 053006: Olay Vitamins

This seems like such an odd product to me, but the marketing worked. Vitamins, energy AND healthy skin? What really sold me was the the cap is gold and the pills are pink. me = total girl.

  • 053106: blank t-shirts for printing

I ordered $193.00 worth of blank shirts from alternative apparel so I can print some obsessive consumption shirts up and sell them! Finally update my online store. FINALLY! The shirts are so soft and the colors and styles are pretty wonderful. I like them way better than american apparel.

  • 060506: Elelments of Style

I am weak and purchased the beautiful maria kalman illustrated elements of style. I already own the tattered paperback, but I NEEDED this glorious red bookcloth covered classic. so sweet. Ordered from Amazon so it was a bit cheaper than the original cover price of $24.95.

  • 060606: anthropologie wedding shoes

The yellow beauties will soon be mine. Ordered from anthropologie in a size 10 for 78.00 ( expensive for me, but I didn't pay anything for the dress so I felt a bit better about the cost). I looked all over the internets for a pair of shoes that would work with my wedding dress ( my mom's 1969 yellow chiffon dress that she wore to her engagement party). I think these are going to work. Still nervous about buying shoes online. We will see.

  • 060706: Pirates of Silicon Valley

This just came in the mail today. Cliff saw it when it first came out and I feel like I have seen bits of it. We are going to watch it soon.

  • 060806: cutter advanced

bugs like me. I don't like them. Mosquito season started by me looking down at my leg when I walked outside the other day and saw ELEVEN mosquitos feasting. ELEVEN! This seems to work so far.

  • 061306: Paper Globes for the Wedding!

Kari and I are buying up paper globes/lanterns for the reception. I found 13 of them for a dollar each at our local dollar store. I cleaned them out of their paper globe/lantern inventory. They better restock because I am planning on buying more. The lanterns are blue, yellow, pink and white. I hope the next supply consists of some orange and green ones.

  • 061406: Acutal Workout Shorts

Bah! I lost scene points (because we all know about the raging scene that exists in starkville, mississippi) and bought a pair of navy blue, walmart, stretchy shorts for $6.93. No more cut off old man pants for me when I do tae bo. I will be cardio fat blasting with no style whatsoever. But I really couldn't give a crap...this fabric breathes!

  • 061906: nail polish

I took a late night walmart spin and ended up with some useless shit. Black fingernail polish isn't exactly useless, seeing that it is on my fingernails as I type this and it replaced a bottle of it that I had lost a few weeks ago. Doubtful the black is going to make it to my wedding day. Love My Nails is the worst brand of nail polish (only tied with wet n' wild), but at 99 cents a bottle I don't feel bad buying it.

  • 062206: covergirl eyeshadow

The seaglass shade collection. Light green, dirty yellow and brown.

  • 062506: apple barrel paint

I actually bought five of these. They were onsale for 40 cents a bottle. These are the big bottles too. Score! I love painting with cheap craft paint.

  • 062406: fashion tights

These are a light cream color. I think they will work with my dress. I also bought a tan color as well.

  • 062306: eyeshadow brush

I have never bought a special makeup application apparatus before and I really don't know if it will make a difference.

  • 062606: Planner Moleskine

I have been excited about moleskine introducing a new planner line. I grabbed this right away when I saw it in Books A Million (BAM) in Columbus, MS. The first day in the planner was June 26th, 2006 which is the day that I purchased it. OMG.

  • 062706: Black Bikini

This is my first swimsuit in years. I spent forever in Old Navy with no success. Went to Walmart and this fell into my lap. So easy. It made up for my 45 minutes of pain in Old Navy earlier that day.

  • 062806: Haircut and Eyebrow Wax

Received my pre-wedding hair trim and eyebrow wax. I fell asleep in the chair. I always do that.

  • 070106: oil change and other good things

We spent $200.83 on an oil change and several belt replacements and some fluid flushings...it was long overdue for our car. We wanted to be safe for our upcoming trip to virginia.

  • 070206: aleve

This was bought at wal-mart and taken many times over the course of the next week.

  • 070306: Virginia Lottery

I am a sucker for scratch off tickets. Mississippi does not have the lottery. Virginia, however, had The Money Train. ALL ABOARD!!!! I did not win.

  • 070406: eye shadow

Ohhh...dramatic. Yellow and Purple eyeshadow. I thought this would look good with my yellow and purple dress. I was wrong. I did not use this and it broke into a billion pieces on the way home. Way to waste $5.00, kate.

  • 070506: staples

I purchased about a billion staples (okay, more like 20,000) at sam's club. These were used to staple together our programs that clifton made. I still have around 19,300 left.

  • 070606: fancy xacto

Purchased this at Michael's in Roanoke, VA. It was used many many times and is still in high usage. I love xactos!

  • 070706

I bought clifton a box of green tea at the Food Lion. We were too busy to sit down and drink it. Kory bought us a kettle for a wedding present and I had good intentions of using it. Didn't happen.

  • 070806: wine and food

This bottle of wine represents the check that I wrote for the caterer. $900.00 total, but split between the couples. The food was good, but I was too busy talking to really eat anything. The wine, I drank.

  • 070906: sponges

These were purchased to clean up the apartment that clifton and I were staying in for the week. We purchased these at the Food Lion in Floyd. What is up with the phrase "handy cellulose"?

  • 071006

Deb, Clifton and I played the South Carolina Powerball. Two of us guessed the powerball number and won six bucks! Thanks a Billion South Carolina!

  • 071106: keychain

So stupid and wrong and I own it.

  • 071206

My nose needed some work after we got back. I used to swear that these didn't work, but after not using them for years, I disagree with my original assesment.

  • 071306: support hose (aka: I am getting older)

yeah, so clifton marries me and I break out the support hose. I have kind of poor cirrculation in my legs (runs in my family) and after all of the wedding activities, my legs were super swollen and really hurt. I remember my mom wearing these all through her late 20's and early 30's. By god, I felt stupid for buying them, but I was bouncing all over the place with awesome feeling legs hours after putting them on.

  • 071406: hand soap

On sale hand soap. I like the foaming stuff. Bought at Kroger.

  • 071506: taco bell

At the moment, I am in love with the cruchwrap supreme. Back off! oh and wild cherry pepsi. Both are my guilty food pleasures of July 2006.

  • 071606: CHUG milk

We needed milk for cereal this morning. This quart bottle makes me laugh. CHUG! I mean, how many typefaces are on this bottle? Too many, that is how many.

  • 071806: Quizno's Flatbread Salad

I ran down to the corner (okay, I didn't run...I drove. It was hot outside. back off) and picked up a quizno's flatbread salad. Clifton and I split this and had pasta for dinner tonight. I asked for a salad without meat, but I don't think the employee's working tonight considered bacon to be a meat, because I got handfuls of that instead...which is really fine, because bacon = yum. I just didn't want the chicken or ham or turkey that is typically piled high on these salads. Bottomline: salad was good and huge and $4.95.

  • 071906: Kelly Green Reeboks

Awesome Dork $29.99 bright kelly green reeboks. I bought them at Hibbett Sports tonight after the decision was made that black chucks are not very good workout shoes. Again, black chucks are not good workout shoes. Boy, do I wish that they were. sigh.

  • 072006: Old Navy Long Tank Top x Four

I went to Old Navy last night to stock up on the extra long tank tops before they vanish and fall and winter clothing invades. Thankfully they still had a small pile, but the fall clothing is already populating the shelves. I so do not want to buy kicky sweaters or tight pencil legged jeans. Not when I live in Mississippi and it is hotter than an arm pit outside. Give me tank tops and lots of them.

  • 072106: Floss

I had a sudden surge of guilt about teeth care. Bought a new toothbrush (six dollar electric), floss and expensive toothpaste. I flossed furiously today. I wonder if I will tomorrow.

  • 072206: Bust

Fall Fashion Issue! The girly girl in me generally loves any type of Fall Fashion issue. The third wave feminist who wants to slay the girly girl in me loves the Bust Fall Fashion issue. (though, really, if the girly girl and the third waver got together and talked, they would realize that they both enjoy the Bust Fall Fashion Issue). anyway. This issue was extra sweet because Stephanie Syjuco (one of my favorite people that I have never met, but feel that we would totally get along swimmingly in real life but for now email and other forms of internet communication will have to suffice) had a whole page devoted to her and her company: antifactory: www.stephaniesyjuco.com/antifactory/

  • 072306: Birthday Card for Grandma

I KNOW! I KNOW! I KNOW! I should make her a card, but today was her birthday and I needed something quick. But after I purchased this I sent her an e-card and then called her. I don't think I am going to send this card after all. Probably next year.

  • 072406: Sugar Free Vault

The radio commercials are just terrible for Coca Cola's newest venture into the energy drink market. Booming voice, talking about being sporty and aggressive and how VAULT will make you strong and brilliant. I am not exactly their target market, but I am a sucker for trying new energy drinks so I was obligated to pay 79 cents at my local Mobil and gulp this agro drink down. Well, I liked it. It tasted like a flat fresca...which is a good thing. I don't like all of the sweetness that goes along with redbull and other energy tonics. Tasting like a flat fresca is an awesome improvement AND it is 79 cents versus the $2.00 tag that normally accompanies these drinks.

  • 072606: African Violet

I noticed when I was in Southern Family Foods the other day that African Violets were $2.00 each. We went back later that day and purchased two. Here is to hoping that I don't kill them. Anyone have african violet tips? I always seem to do poorly with them.

  • 072706: tivo usb adapter

Clifton gave me TIVO for my upcoming birthday. YES!!! Now I can tivo all of the Pee Wee Herman episodes that Cartoon Network has been running at night and other wonderful bits of television that will ultimately make me a better person. We both thought the company Tivo was on the up and up until the Linksys Wire Adapter that we needed to make the whole schbang work HAD to be purchased from Tivo. It wouldn't work with our other USB cords because they weren't authorized by Tivo. Tivo also didn't make it too clear that we needed this bit of technology before the order was placed. Works right out of the box my ass.

  • 072506: The Carter Family Cookbook

The Carter Family Cookbook was my birthday present to Clifton. He loves The Carter Family and I thought owning a cookbook with Carter Family recepies would be so swell. I was under the impression that I was bidding on the old tyme country music familyCarter Family Cookbook. What I was really bidding on was a cookbook by the JIMMY Carter family. uh, honest mistake? Clifton says he still really likes it.

  • 072806: itunes

Purchased two albums off of itunes today: Jens Lekman and CSS. I have wanted Jens Lekman for quite awhile...listening to it right now, acutually. Love it. He sounds heavily influenced by many people that I really enjoy, but esp. influenced by Stephen Merritt and The Magnetic Fields, in my opinion. God, I love the Magnetic Fields. Anyway. CSS is good music to work to. Brazillianartdancetronic. Jens voice sounds a bit Jonathan Richaman too. Just thought of that.

  • 073006: faux golden metal letters

I have always been rather fascinated with the shape and form of these faux golden metal letters. I bought my name at Lowe's today. 53 cents a letter. They are going on my office door. I am so pleased with them that I am going to buy more.

  • 072906: cheapo garden gloves

I purchased several cacti which were 50% off today. The gloves were bought because I am planning on transplanting them from their small plastic pots to larger ceramic ones.

  • 080106: Married Checks

A new box of checks came in with my married name: Kate Bingaman-Burt.

  • 073106: Non Handmade Ipod Holder

Ugh. I have been using a sewn felt ipod holder that I made for myself two years ago. It was falling apart and really not that functional. I bought an ipod hold that I could put on my arm for $4.95 awhile back, but I gave it to Clifton. There are many many very cute handmade ipod holders, but I was bad and bought this hot pink neoprene ipod holder at radio shack. It was on sale. I brought it home and discovered that it doesn't fit my ancient ipod the way it is supposed to. It holds it, but I have to put it in upside down so I can plug in the headphones.

  • 080206: Mascara

So far not impressed with the "revolutionary" eyelash wand. I do like the all black packaging.

  • 080706: Plastic Palette Knives

Two plastic palette knives were purchased to assist me with the spreading and removal of gocco ink. I have been using wooden popsicle sticks, but I thought it was time to upgrade to fancy plastic.

  • 080806: New Dog!

Of course I had to draw our new dog for my daily purchase drawing. Her eyes don't look crazy in real life, but I enjoyed drawing them that way. We are tossing names around and want to have one for her when we pick her up on Friday. Any suggestions?

  • 080906: Water for water bottle

We purchased a big water cooler with a few of our wedding target gift cards. Last night we went to walmart to fill the five gallon bottle. $1.77! The machine is just cycling it through though. The water tastes really bad. I hope that the bad taste is just because the machine is new. fingers crossed.

  • 081306: Vitamin Water

ARGH! I guess 50 cent is no longer the only celeb who gets a premium label of Vitamin Water named after him. Kelly Clarkson does too. If you happen to see this week's STAR magainze while you are in the checkout line, flip it over and look at a really horrendous example of advertising. The back cover is designed to look like STAR magazine. Example of one of the headlines: kelly says, she breaks away from other beverages and since they've been gone she feels a lot healthier. It really shows in her hazel eyes and it's because of you. NICE! anyway. I picked this up in the aisle at walmart and drank it while I was enduring what could possibly rank in my top four horrendous shopping experiences ever. Not to get into details, but it involved lots of carts, aisle blockage, clueless patrons, aimless walking and no sense of personal space. I needed this for sustanence. *pssst...this drink is really not so good for you*

  • 081206: Lip Balm

Or as one of the ladies in the new season of Flavor of Love calls it: Lip Chap. mmm...Crazyberry...my favorite kind of berry. I would like to say I purchased this to celebrate the new season of FOL, but I didn't. .88 cents

Light blue scotch tape plus holder. $5.50 from the Campus Bookmart.

  • 082406: soup at hand

individual portioned sized, microwavable tomato soup! like it could be any easier to make! loves it! I must be the only one who loves it because it was on massive clearance at Kroger. Four cans for a dollar!

  • 082306: ancient hipster PDA holder

This is called a POCKETS PLUS! Index Caddie and I purchased it for a dollar. The poor design on the exterior looks very early 90's, but it is so relevant to the Hipster PDA it hurts. I need to do some research on this product.

  • 082206: Grumbacher watercolor

yum! I scored at Bully's Bookstore today. All of their art supplies were 50% off. I bought several tubes of watercolor paints for a dollar a tube. I am wondering if that place is going out of business...barnes and noble set up shop right in the middle of campus and I am expecting several of the smaller bookstores to die quickly.

  • 082106: American Flag post-it tabs

  • 090206: Sunsilk Hairapy

okay, I fell victim to annoying advertising (http://www.gethairapy.com/) and decided that I was BLUE which means my hair gets poofy as it dries. I am 99% sure that this special "blue" sunsilk hasn't really helped my poofy hair. OH THE HORROR! Purchased at Walmart: $.3.34

These are more of a salmon color. Sulivans Office Supply: $1.15

  • 090506: Bonjour Tristesse

We haven't watched this yet. Clifton has a habit of adding movies to our Netflix and then forgetting what they are about when we receive them in the mail. I would be more upset if the movies that he chooses suck, but they always rule.

Purchased at a little store downtown where last year's clothes are showcased like they are this year's trends and are priced at next year's prices. If that makes sense.

I purchased three diet cokes from the architecture coke machine today for clifton, will and me! I think it was Will that said "ahhh...the sweet sting of carbonation." when I handed it to him. I thought it was funny so I drew it.

  • 111306: Serta Queen Mattress!

We have been sleeping on a futon for many years and have been wanting a real bed for just as long. Purchased at Target.com for $599.00 then minus a $50.00 gift card we had left over from our wedding. I AM SO EXCITED! It should be here any day. The futon that we have been sleeping on is a good one. I purchased it when I first moved to Omaha in 2000, but I am 29 and Clifton is 32. We are too old to be sleeping on an uncomfortable futon. Let's be grownups now, shall we?

  • 111206: Black and Navy Knee Highs

Wintertime is upon us and that means time to restock my knee high supply. Walmart: four pairs of socks for $10.00

  • 111106: Thrift Store Dress

The Palmer Home Thrift Store is right around the corner from my house so I am able to stop in a lot. Today I noticed that my favorite Palmer Home employee from Columbus was working at the Starkville Palmer. His name is Dennis and he is GREAT! He informed me today that he is going to set aside all of the vintage pieces that come in just for me so I can have first pick. We also talked about Tom Ford and belted men's sweaters. This dress was a dollar. and in perfect condition. Thanks, Dennis!

  • 110806: Deodorant

Really, what is with this deodorant packaging? I spent five minutes (which was five minutes too long) deciding which decade of woman I wanted to slather onto my pits in the morning. The 50s was the least repugnant.

I traveled to Columbus, Mississippi to purchase the New York Times and picked up a Stop Smiling Magazine as well.

  • 111706: White Paint

This paint is uber cheap and non archival but I love it. Walmart: $1.18

  • 111606: ACTIVON

Hello back pain! For some unknown reason I have had lower back pain for the past two weeks (it could be that I sit in the most uncomfortable computer chair in northern mississippi). I finally broke down and went to walgreen's to buy some meds. Now, I abhor the HeadOn commericals. I tell my advertising students that simply because an ad is annoying and stays with you, haunting your everything thought, does not mean it is effective advertising. I would like to say I am eating my words with the purchase of ACTIVON. Oh! and it really works. Walgreen's: $9.99

  • 111506: URBN comforter

Since we moved up fromo a full to a queen, some new bedding materials were in order. I liked this one from URBN because number one: it was one sale and number two: the patter was similar to some flowers that I had drawn for some of our wedding stuff. Awwwww!!! 49.00 from urbn.com (plus 5.95 + 15.00 oversize shipping charge...yikes!)

  • 111406: Thift Store Frames

I purchased some frames at my favorite thrift shop for fifty cents a each. I wll probably paint them and use them for a show. or maybe not. Maybe I will place family photos in each one of their flaking metal gold frames and hang them on my wall instead of filling them with drawings and spray painting them pink and orange. who am I kidding. I am spray painting them pink and orange. thanks to number one thrift store worker dennis for the super deal.

  • 102206: Bean Burritos

  • 102106: Coffee and Krispy Kreme

We arrived in Jefferson City tired and eary for the wedding. Stopping at a gas station, we picked up some coffee and donuts and sat in our car. It was raining and cold. Now that gas prices have dropped it only cost us around 20 bucks to fill up our empty Rav 4 tank instead of the normal 30.

In the Bingaman-Burt household we eat these like candy. Not sure if that is a good thing.

  • 101606: Gloves

It gets cold in our house. These cheap-o knit gloves were purchased specifically so that I could cut off their tips and be placed on my hands. They are my typing gloves. • 101506: Good Magazine

I purchased this magazine in Columbus, MS at Books A Million. • 112106: Dog Nail Clippers

The entire process of clipping dog nails FREAKS ME OUT! I paid $7.00 for these clippers at our local farmer's co-op. Our poor puppy. She is doomed to have very long claws because even though these are safety clippers, I still think I am going to clip off too much nail.

We finally have a good recycling system thanks to Lowe's. Each bin was $7.88 and came with labels so we can mark where we should throw our trash. Starkville doesn't recycle glass so, uh, I guess we are still bad. Thanks Starkville?

  • 081106: Hose Nozzle

Purchased at Walmart for $3.96. Also bought a new hose.

  • 080306: Blank Composition Book

Book number three for the daily drawings. I have been drawing something everyday for six months now.

  • 080406: 100 calorie wheat thins

These are good for you if you only eat one pack. If you eat three packs at a time it defeats the purpose. I just ate two packs of wheat thins crackers with a tub of hummus. YUM! Disturbing how much packaging is involved with these products.

  • 080506: yoga dvd

We purchased this at Target. I think this might be the most disturbing drawing that I have done. I swear on the cover of the dvd it looks like he has no legs as well. The video is good, by the way.

  • 071706: Postage Receipt

I purchased postage to england for a few zines. This is the first time that I have drawn a receipt and the only reason that I did was because this was the only thing that I purchased today. I suppose a receipt is applicable. I didn't really buy anything tangible. The receipt is the souvenir of the intangible purchase.

  • 061506: corrugated paper

  • 060306: Mini Snack Raisins

We went to Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday. Tuscaloosa has a Publix Grocery Store which is quickly becoming my favorite grocery store chain ever. We picked up some items that we normally can't get in Starkville. Don't get me wrong, we can get raisins in Starkville, but we can't get raisins that have a smile made out of raisins on the package. I am a sucker for design choices like this. I can't help it. This one box came in a pack of six.

  • 060206: arm ipod holder

I have an old ipod. I love my old ipod. Companies that make accessories for ipods do not like old ipods. A sewn, felt case that I made in a few minutes about two years ago has worked just fine as far as protecting it from scratches, but I really wanted something to keep it on my arm when I would walk or run or clean the house. So I bought this really ugly ipod holder. It was cheap and it was the only one that I could find that would hold my big, fat, old, AWESOME ipod. $7.99

  • 060106:phone charger

This is the second phone charger that I have purchased in two weeks. I left my main charger at my grandmother's house and my phone remained dead for a few days until I bought another one. • 051406: Floor Mats for the Car

We bought these at Target in Tuscaloosa when we went to register for our wedding. No one needs to get us car mats, by the way. Oh Target...why do you have to be in Alabama?

  • 041606

KLUBBO coffee table! This was purchased during my first trip to IKEA. KLUBBO is such a funny/fun made up swedish word. KLUBBO! Yell it. It is fun to say. Anyway, its faux brushed steel legs and faux wood table top now reside in my living room with my two chairs that have real brushed steel legs. They match! The coffee table currently holds two cds of work images, a pack of embroidery needles, wallet, phone, orbit gum, sunglasses, watch, black prismacolor marker, black pilot v5 ink pen, remote control, PCA/ACA padfolio, planner, grade book, orange powerade and a pony tail holder. What did I ever do with all of my junk before my KLUBBO coffee table?!?

  • 041706

The drawing is a bit misleading because I acutally bought about 100 of these packs today at the Starkville Sewing Center. I only went in for needles and I left for two bags full of vintage seam binding. About 7/8 of the seam binding were marked to 10 cents and the 1/8 were a quarter. $35.00 was spent. Great colors too! Greens, blues, yellows and oranges. They all dated back to the 1970s and were picked up at an estate sale a while back. I use seam binding all of the time and my good supply was running low.

  • 121606: AMC Pacer Remote Control Car

  • 011707: Steel Wool

I borrowed some #0000 super fine steel wool from Critz in the woodshop because I couldn't find any at Lowe's. I picked this bag up at Walmart to replace the pads that I borrowed.

  • 011807: Bust Magazine

ugh, gwen stefani on the cover when there is a perfectly good story about Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore inside? How great would the cover have been if those two were on it instead...especially since this is the love issue.

Up until today, I always pronounced it modge podge.

  • 012807: The Shins

I totally wussed out on completely copying the cover of this album. My hand hurt and I still had a ton of dots and circles to draw. I listened to this twice on the way back from Tuscaloosa. I like the first half better than the second half, but it is growing on me.

  • 021706-Netflix

I have been all about the 1893 world's fair lately. This documentary was good! A couple of the live action shots were cheesy (bad belly dancers and repeated jolly men drinking beer), but the narration (gene wilder) and the photographs were great!

Again making the resolution to NEVER EVER eat fried foods EVER again.

Each were 88 cents at Wal-Mart.

mmmmm...the best vanilla milkshake ever. This is the kid size and I used to drink way more of these than I should. Now, I have cut back a bit, but last night was time for one.

We have a dishwasher! We need soap! We have never had a dishwasher before! Huzzah!

  • 050906: composition notebook

New book for my daily drawings. I have filled up ONE so far with plenty more to go. I went with the cheaper composition notebook instead of the hardback sketch book that I purchased the first time around. The pages are thinner and the pen reacts differently, but I like it.

  • 051706: soft suitcase

Thrift store buy. It came back full from Kenosha. Along with a bigger suitcase that came back an extra 25 pounds heavier. I had to pay 25 bucks at the airport because the big suitcase weighed 62 pounds...12 over the 50 pound limit. yuck.

Still nervous about buying shoes online. We will see.

Kari and I are buying up paper globes/lanterns for the reception. I found 13 of them for a dollar each at our local dollar store. I cleaned them out of their paper globe/lantern inventory.

This was bought at wal-mart and taken many times over the course of the next week.

  • 070406: eye shadow

Ohhh...dramatic. Yellow and Purple eyeshadow. I thought this would look good with my yellow and purple dress. I was wrong. I did not use this and it broke into a billion pieces on the way home. Way to waste $5.00, kate.

I would like to say I purchased this to celebrate the new season of FOL, but I didn't. .88 cents

• 082106: American Flag post-it tabs

  • 09:20:06: Expensive T-shirt

This is possibly the best t-shirt I have even owned and it should be, because I spent $25.00 on a plain, gray t-shirt. oh, but it is so so soft and long and comfortable that I want to get a black one as well. Purchased at a little store downtown where last year's clothes are showcased like they are this year's trends and are priced at next year's prices. If that makes sense.

The entire process of clipping dog nails FREAKS ME OUT! I paid $7.00 for these clippers at our local farmer's co-op. Our poor puppy. She is doomed to have very long claws because even though these are safety clippers, I still think I am going to clip off too much nail.

I totally wussed out on completely copying the cover of this album. My hand hurt and I still had a ton of dots and circles to draw. I listened to this twice on the way back from Tuscaloosa. I like the first half better than the second half, but it is growing on me.
